Klay supports the act of floor sitting, for its postural benefits, communal nature and long history around the world. With this in mind these large square squabs — inspired by traditional Japanese floor cushions - help facilitate this activity for people of all ages (though these are especially popular for families with young children). Highly versatile, they also work well off the floor — on beds, benches and couches. The covers of Klay Floor Cushions come in two natural fibres. The 100 per cent linen cushions feature a slubby weave, appealing due to its charming (and small) lumps and marks that add to its naturalistic character.
Structured and firm, Klay cushions are designed and made with endurance in mind, thanks to Kirsty McLay’s methodical handiwork. Five hand-crafted layers (and unparalleled composition) make Klay cushions resilient and comfortable. The soft, supportive cushion inners are made from repurposed natural-fibre flocking (a blend that is 80 per cent wool), deadstock foam and locally-made batting; covered in calico, each is hand-trussed, sculpted and steam-moulded into its final shape. Klay cushion outers are made from linen, cotton and velvet. The cushion outer features an invisible colour-matched zip and can be removed and washed — or swapped with another Klay outer for a different look.
