Patched Calico Duvet Cover (Queen or King Size options)

These Calico Patched Duvet Covers are special handmade pieces, which are finished with quality traditional construction methods. No shortcuts. 

Calico is a utilitarian material that has been used since the 11th century. It has a natural, unbleached finish, with some small flecks of the husk in places as the cotton is not fully processed. The colour is a natural warm off-white.

They are inspired by a duvet cover Kirsty made 15 years ago using fabric from her workroom, which I cherish because of its handmade feel.

They are finished with flat felled seams for the patched panels and the insides with french seams. There is no exposed overlocking. 

These are made from 10 patched panels (5 on each side). There are two long parallel panels at the sides and three panels in the centre, the side panels in both the Queen & King sizes stays the same. The centre panel becomes wider for the King size. Please zoom in on the photos to see the detail of the panels.

These have 100% natural corozo nut buttons. The duvet covers have small openings at the top with ties, so that once your duvet cover is inside, you can secure it in place.

100% Cotton. Made by us in Aotearoa (NZ) in small batches. They come in a calico drawstring bag.

There are care labels sewn into the inside of the duvet covers. Here are our suggestions for washing your duvet cover:

Wash separately on a gentle cycle with a lower spin speed. Use cold water to wash them (or 30-40 degrees if you need to). Use a gentle eco-friendly laundry liquid, nothing with harsh bleaching ingredients. Ideally dry it in the shade and iron from the inside out (but these look lovely crinkly and un-ironed too!). It is best to avoid using a dryer generally as they really wear fabrics out so fast. Never soak these duvet covers if you want to retain the lovely warm off-white colour. Avoid storing in sunlight.
