Spice Grinder, Built Editions (six colour options)
We just have the black left now. have a re-stock of the sold out colours on the way :) I will send out an email newsletter when they are re-stocked.
Crafted by artisans from 'Toy Makers Town' Channapatna, the Spice Grinder is made from turned wood and lacquered in an array of vivid colours. The grinders, both unique and practical, add a distinctive touch to any dining table or kitchen.
The Spice Grinders are hand-crafted by artisans in Channapatna using a century-old woodturning technique and natural lacquer applications. To fill your grinder with pepper corns or coarse salt, simply pull the egg from its base to open the container.
The shiny finish of the Spice Grinders is obtained by the application of lac, a non-toxic, natural resin, that is the secretion of the insect Laccifer Lacca". It is found on specific trees and used by lacware artisans since ancient times. The lacs are coloured with natural dyes, extracted from plants such as turmeric, indigo, kumkum, Manjishta (natural Alizarin), Catechu, and the bark of the Ratanjyoth trees.
It is equipped with the worlds first ceramic grinding mechanism from the Danish brand Crushgrind.
Designed by Built Editions in Mumbai, Made in Channapatna, India.
Size: 21cm tall x 7cm diameter (at widest part).
*please note that these are HANDMADE using NATURAL materials: wood and natural pigments and lacquer. There are imperfections in these such as small marks where the knots in wood is the lacquer is darker, particularly on the orange ones, where there are several of these darker spots. Please see ALL photos for reference - I added some photos to try to show these marks clearly. This is part of the natural hand made beauty of these. They are not plastic :)
