Product Care
There are care instructions sewn into every Klay item, so please follow them in addition to the tips/general care guide
Cushions
- Plump your cushion up from time to time if it loses its shape.
- Do not store/leave in direct sunlight as this causes fading.
- Be gentle when you take the cover off, always make sure the inner is not putting any stress on the edges of the zip openings.
- Follow care instructions on label sewn into the cover for how to wash.
- For hand washing - wash individually, always with cold water, gentle eco laundry liquid, do not soak, never put in a machine or the dryer, do not wring too strongly, drip dry as much as possible.
- Avoid using velvet cushions on surfaces with sharp edges or patterns, as velvet can bruise.
- Do not wash inner - just gently spot clean it and air it outside in the shade to freshen.
For ironing/steaming velvet never touch velvet with the iron. For Discs and Globes you can keep the inner inside, but for Bolsters you will need to remove the cover. Hover the iron 3-4 inches away from the velvet and steam, while brushing velvet with a gentle brush - use a babies hairbrush, toothbrush or something similar.
Hemp Shower Curtains
Hemp is naturally antibacterial, but like any fabric, it can develop mould if not properly maintained. To ensure the longevity of your hemp shower curtain, follow these care instructions:
- Dry After Each Use: Fully extend the shower curtain after each use to allow it to dry. If you use it with a bathtub, it may help to pull it away from any surfaces it clings to.
- Ventilate the Bathroom: Keep your bathroom well-ventilated by opening a window whenever possible to reduce moisture buildup.
- Regular Washing: Treat your hemp shower curtain similarly to towels or bed linens. Wash it every couple of weeks using a gentle cycle at 40°C with a low spin setting. Use a mild, eco-friendly laundry detergent and avoid bleach or whiteners. Do not tumble dry the curtain. After washing, hang it to dry in the sun for best results. Wrinkles will naturally disappear when the curtain is hung in the shower.
If your hemp shower curtain develops mould, follow these steps to clean it:
Baking Soda and Vinegar Method:
- Prepare the Wash Load: Add a couple of towels (preferably similar in colour) to the washing machine to assist with cleaning.
- Wash Settings: Set the machine to a gentle cycle with warm water (around 40°C). Add your regular eco-friendly gentle laundry detergent or powder.
- Add Baking Soda: During the wash cycle, add ½ cup of baking soda to the machine.
- Add Vinegar: Once the wash cycle reaches the rinse phase, add ½ cup of plain white vinegar to the water.
- Check for Remaining Mould: Once the cycle ends, shake out the curtain and check for any remaining mould. If necessary, make a paste using baking soda and water, apply it to the mould spots, and rewash the curtain with the towels on a gentle, warm cycle.
- Dry Thoroughly: Ensure the curtain is completely dry before reuse. Sun-drying is the most effective method.
Preventive Tip: For homes prone to mould issues, it's a good idea to have two hemp shower curtains and alternate them every couple of weeks to give each time to fully dry and reduce the risk of mould buildup.
