Hannah's Klay Gift Guide

Here's a list of things we sell that I often give as gifts <3

Hannah's Gift Guide

1.

Spice Grinder by Built Editions

I haven't gifted these to anyone yet - because we JUST got them in from India. But I know I will, because they are wonderful. Not only are they incredibly beautiful functional objects, but the fact they are made from natural pigments and resins and hand turned by a traditional wooden toy making town in India makes them very special.

We gifted one to ourselves already :) it sits on our bench top or dining table to be admired.

2.

Little Pocket Tape Measure

We used to buy similar (but Indian versions) little tape measures in bulk from little hardware stores near our projects in India when I used to work there as an architect. I would send them as gifts to friends around the world. So many people need a little pocket tape measure! I get good feed back on this as a little gift from friends that are chefs, photographers, designers, bakers, shop owners & potters. These are my default gift.

3.

Apron

I have given our aprons as gifts to a handful of friends & I get good feedback about how comfortable they are to wear.

Once we had a customer start a gift chain of aprons - someone bought an apron for themselves, then a few days later, ordered another one as a gift, then a little while after, the person they gifted it to bought another one to gift to someone else too :)

4.

Ice Cream Cookbook

I bought an ice cream maker on Trade Me (NZ's version of eBay) earlier this year as I find it hard to get ice cream flavours that I like & got this book out from the library and read cover to cover. No where in NZ stocked it that I could find so I imported heaps of copies to sell on our website. It is so inspiring - reading about Kitty's journey to become an ice cream master made me smile a lot. I love her natural & gentle approach. The flavours are fun and interesting, but not overly sweet, sickly & silly like lots of ice cream is these days.

You do need an ice cream maker to use this book - but maybe who ever you gift this too will be inspired to find a second hand one too after reading it.

It is summer!

5.

Sun Hat

In New Zealand we have a summer Christmas. It is outdoor time now! The cicadas are starting to buzz and the smells and sights of blooming flowers bring a little hope to a very dark past year. A sun hat sort of feels like a gift of hope in a way. Sunny days ahead. Sun is healing - but also dangerous in NZ! Cover up, and keep sun safe :) our sun hats have an adjustable drawstring inside to fit a range of head sizes. They really are very beautifully made - you can feel the quality and care put into it. Kirsty has made them with attention to detail and care.

This is our last ever batch of hats too!

6.

Pouch

These pouches are so handy as bag organisers - a good gift for someone who carries heaps of stuff in their bag everyday and might need something to organise all that stuff. Kirsty's got FOUR of these pouches in her bag today :) one is her purse, one for her tools: scissors and thread and pliers etc and another for pencils & a Little Pocket Tape Measure and one for electronics & cables.

I use mine a lot when travelling too - they are great for keeping passports and documents safe.

7.

Bookstand

These are a good gift because they're one of those items you don't really realise how much you needed it until you have one. They make it so much easier to read recipes from - no more neck strain! No more food spattered on books! More bench space! Michael's clever design means they fold up away so neatly too.

8.

Klay Globe Cushion

I like gifting our cushions to friends and family with young children because I’ve seen firsthand how much they’re enjoyed by everyone. These soft, handmade cushions are perfect for cuddling, stroking, sitting on, lying down with to prop up your head while reading or watching TV. I think part of the joy in giving them to people I care about comes from knowing the care and effort that go into making them. To me, our cushions feel like lasting companions—objects people can use daily, year after year, through different phases and seasons of life. I even take mine on trips overseas, and they've been a source of comfort for me during stressful moments. There’s something uniquely soothing about the velvet ones in particular—the softness to the touch, combined with their satisfying weight. I think of them like a grown-up version of a teddy bear.

9.

Little Silver Plate

These sweet little plates are coated with real silver, which makes I think makes them feel special and have a bit of a ceremonial intentional feeling about it for snack time. They shiny silver reflects the colours of what is on the plate like a dazzling jewel.

10.

Oven/ Pot Mitten

These are cute (and actually heaps more practical in my opinion) because they are sort of mini sized, but that doesn't mean they just work for mini sized hands. Why are pot holders SO big? Great gift for someone... who uses an oven... and needs to upgrade from using tea towels. Another one of those items that you don't realise how much you needed a well designed one till you have a good one!

Thanks for reading my gift guide!

Please let me know if you want anything gift wrapped. I brought back some beautiful Japanese wrapping paper from Kyoto & we do gift wrapping for free. Just add a note at checkout. We also sell lovely hand screen printed cards by Tara Books, which are printed on handmade paper in their Chennai based studio.

We also sell both Physical and Digital Gift Vouchers, which are also great gifts! The physical ones were designed by the very talented Chloe Larkin who designed this beautiful new website for us (and our Palestine Fundraiser Posters!). The physical gift vouchers come inside paper glassine envelopes that we made in our workshop.
