Product care

There are care instructions sewn into every Klay item, so please follow them in addition to the tips/ general care guide below:

General tips for Cushions:

  • Plump your cushion up from time to time if it loses its shape.
  • Do not store/ leave in direct sunlight as this causes fading.
  • Be gentle when you take the cover off, always make sure the inner is not putting any stress on the edges of the zip openings.
  • Follow care instructions on label sewn into the cover for how to wash.
  • For hand washing - wash individually, always with cold water, gentle eco laundry liquid, do not soak, never put in a machine or the dryer, do not wring too strongly, drip dry as much as possible.
  • Avoid using velvet cushions on surfaces with sharp edges or patterns, as velvet can bruise.
  • Do not wash inner - just gently spot clean it and air it outside in the shade to freshen.
  • For ironing/ steaming velvet never touch velvet with the iron. For Discs and Globes you can keep the inner inside, but for Bolsters you will need to remove the cover. Hover the iron 3-4 inches away from the velvet and steam, while brushing velvet with a gentle brush - use a babies hairbrush, toothbrush or something similar.

General tips for Hemp Shower Curtains:

Please note that even though hemp has wonderful naturally antibacterial qualities, like all fabrics it can grow mould if not looked after. Here are our suggestions for using these shower curtains:

  • Fully extend shower curtain between uses so it can dry. If using it with a bathtub it might help to move it away from any surface that it clings to.
  • Keep your bathroom ventilated by opening a window whenever possible.
  • Treat this like your towels or bed linen. We suggest washing every couple of weeks on a gentle cycle at 40 degrees, low spin using a gentle eco friendly laundry liquid. Do not use any bleach or whiteners. We do not suggest putting these in a dryer. After washing it - hang it somewhere that it can fully dry in the sun. No need to iron them as wrinkles will go when you are showering

If your curtain does grow mould:

Baking Soda and Vinegar method:

In the washing machine:

  • Add a couple of towels (similar colour) to the load to help the cleansing action.
  • Set the machine to a gentle cycle/ warm water (around 40 degrees) and your normal laundry liquid/ powder.
  • Add ½ cup of baking soda during the wash cycle.
  • Pay attention to the cycle and when it reaches the rinse action, add ½ cup of plain white vinegar and pour it to the cycle.
  • Shake out the curtain when the cycle ends and check for leftover mould.
  • Make a paste of baking soda & water. Rub it into any remaining mould and wash again in the machine with the towels & laundry liquid on a warm gentle cycle.
  • Fully dry the curtain before use again, ideally dry the curtain in full sun.

The best plan in homes prone to mould issues is to have two curtains and alternate them every couple of weeks.
